about

My intention with Goodbye is an energetic, hopeful kick off to the record. I wrote Goodbye on a flight from NYC to Colorado- it was inspired after my breakup with my ex. It’s about freedom and space- taking room to breathe and let go of the past. I love the orchestra on Goodbye- there are SO many instruments on this song. In addition to the regular drums, bass, guitar, there is violin, cello, flute, clarinet, tiple (a Columbian 12 string instrument in the guitar family that I had never heard until this album!). It’s sweeping, and cinematic to me.

lyrics

I am not honest enough, I’m caught in my bluff, I don’t know enough
I am old for my age, caught in a cage, that I alone made

Years don’t pass me by,
This is goodbye to my beloved
This is goodbye to where I started
This is goodbye to broken hearted
This is goodbye

You, who calls out my name, drowning in shame, I’m not yours to blame
I, I’ve got bigger plans, I hold out my hands, for you to take

Years don’t pass me by
This is goodbye to my beloved
This is goodbye to where I started
This is goodbye to broken hearted
This is goodbye

Goodbye
